Martin & Co was established in Manchester by John Martin in 1999. John had previously held senior positions in large firms, but wanted to create Manchester’s first specialist employment solicitors to offer a very personal service on employment matters at very competitive rates.
We continue to do this and have won many plaudits from both clients and competitors along the way. The Legal 500 directory has consistently rated us as a leading employment solicitors firm for the last 20 years and has described our services as being “first class” and “superb”.
We are relatively unique, as we specialise exclusively in employment law, which enables us to be at the cutting edge of developments in employment law.
We also handle nearly all of our own advocacy in the employment tribunal rather than involve a barrister at the last minute, which means that the client benefits from continuity throughout a case.
We advise in respect of all aspects of employment law in Manchester, the north west region and beyond. We regularly appear in the employment tribunals in Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds and farther afield, bringing and defending employment law claims.
We act for both companies and individuals in respect of employment matters, and indeed the split is about half and half. This allows us to see things from both perspectives, which gives us an advantage.
In terms of individuals, we act for all levels of employee, from company directors downwards, and advise on all aspects of employment law including executive terminations, compromise/settlement agreements, discrimination claims and unfair dismissal claims in the employment tribunal.
In terms of employers, we act for a major charity with over 1000 employees, a very significant transport provider, a number of further education colleges and a number of schools with Academy status. We also act for many SME’s in sectors like construction, IT, printing, manufacturing and packaging.
In the unlikely event that you are not happy with our service, then because we are regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA number 647441), you have the right to complain to the Legal Ombudsman. In the first instance you should put your concerns in writing to John Martin at this firm, who will investigate, seek to resolve and provide a written outcome. If we are unable to resolve a complaint, then you may apply to the Legal Ombudsman, who will consider your complaint independently as long as you have first tried to resolve the complaint with ourselves and have then applied to the Legal Ombudsman within 6 months of us providing a final response. Any complaint to the Legal Ombudsman should be made no more than 6 years from the act or omission you are complaining about and must be no more than 3 years from when you should reasonably have known there was cause for complaint. The Legal ombudsman can be contacted by e mail at enquiries@legalombudsman.org.uk and by phone on 0300 555 0333. The Solicitors Regulation Authority can assist if you are concerned about a solicitor’s behaviour, for example dishonesty, not dealing with your money properly, or treating you unfairly because of age, disability or some other protected characteristic. Please see their website to see how concerns can be raised at sra.org.uk.
We offer excellent value for money in terms of fees, and we are happy to undertake work underwritten by a legal expenses insurer. We often charge a fixed fee for a first consultation so you know exactly where you stand, so give us a call on 0161 833 9266 or email info@apences.com if you have an employment law issue.
